Strip-Tiller Plants Soybeans in January!

Beaver Dam, Wis., strip-tiller Ryan Nell likes to plant his soybeans super early, but this year he’s really pushing the envelope. Nell planted about 3.5 acres of soybeans on January 31! He checks in with some “play-by-play” in this clip from his X account.


Strip-Tiller Named Top Producer of the Year Finalist

Iowa strip-tiller Mark Hanna is featured in this Farm Journal article. Hanna is a finalist for the 2025 Top Producer of the Year award. “They’re just really good people to work for,” says Larry Severson, a long-time employee. “I mean, they’re very innovative. They try new things like the strip-till. We were the first ones in this area to make that leap. And they went headfirst into it, and it worked out really well for them.”

Mark’s sons, Andrew and Philip, are now partners on the farm.

Strip-Till, Cover Crop Costs & Benefits Highlighted at Soil Management Summit

The Land recaps the University of Minnesota Extension’s Soil Management Summit, which took place at the end of January. During one of the sessions, a trio of farmers shared their costs and yield impacts experienced with cover crops and strip-till.
