As farmers start their transition into strip-till, there are inevitably unexpected challenges and benefits.
This was the case for Nickerson, Neb., farmers Kirk Brand and Brent Willnerd, who adopted strip-till a little more than 4 years ago on their combined operation.
Through experimentation, strip-tilling corn and soybeans, along with incorporation of cover crops, they’ve applied knowledge from some early lessons learned and continue to refine their system.
In today’s Strip-Till Farmer podcast brought to you by Dawn Equipment, we share excerpts from the conversation we had with Kirk and Brent on their farm about the scope of their strip-till operation and some examples of both the progress and pain points they’ve encountered early on in their strip-till journey.
