Despite some early weather setbacks, farmers are gradually getting into the fields this spring and to take advantage of so far, sporadic planting windows.
Wanting to see how things were progressing in the Midwest, I made the trip to Kent, Ill., to spend some time with strip-tiller Seth Wenzel, who was wrapping up spring strip-till and in the early stages of planting corn on his 4,000-acre operation.
Seth also operates a precision dealership — Harness Technologies — so there was plenty of activity while there. During our conversation around this operation, he shared some of his early returns and experiments since adopting strip-till about 6 years ago — from planter modifications to integration of precision technology.
In today’s Strip-Till Farmer podcast, brought to you by Topcon Agriculture, we share excerpts from my on-farm conversation with Seth.
