The most recent USDA crop progress report showed corn planting progress increase significantly over the previous week. Planting progress reached 27% planted vs. 7% in the previous week, above the five year average of 20% and the 12% planted this time last year. Texas, North Carolina and 
Kentucky are the frontrunners of corn planting progress at 67%, 62% and 40% planted, respectively. 

This is the first week USDA began tracking corn emergence for the year, showing 3% emerged in the week ending April 26, behind the five year average of 4% emerged but above the 2% emerged this time last year. Texas led the way in corn emergence at 52%.

Soybean planting progress jumped as well, from 2% in the previous to 8% in the week ended April 26. This is double the five year average of 4% planted and above the 2% planted this time last year. Louisiana and Mississippi continue to lead the way in soybean planting progress at 33% and 30% planted, respectively. 

Cotton planting progress remained steady at 13% planted, above the 11% planted this time last year as well as the 11% planted five year average.

Sorghum planting progress fell below the five year average of 23% with just 20% planted, though it exceeded the 19% planted this time last year.

Sugarbeet progress came in at 37% planted, well over the 22% planted this time last year but below the 47% planted in the five year average. 

Winter wheat heading progress came in at 21%, above the 16% headed this time last year but below the five year average of 25%.
