The latest USDA Crop Progress report showed the rate of both corn planting and corn emergence remain well ahead of last year's progress. The report showed 88% of corn planted as of the week ended May 24, 2020, compared to 55% in the same week last year and the five year average of 82%. Minnesota and North Carolina showed the most progress, with each state reporting 98% of its corn planted.

Corn emergence was reported at 64%, well above the 28% emerged this time last year and surpassing the five year average of 58%. North Carolina reported the most corn emerged at 91%, followed by Texas at 88%. The report showed 58% of corn reported as "good" condition and 25% reported "fair" condition. Just 4% of corn was considered "poor" and 1% considered "very poor."

Soybean planting progress was recorded at 65%, more than double the 26% reported this time last year and above the 55% five year planting average. Iowa and Nebraska reported the most soybeans planted, at 92% and 89% respectively.

Soybean emergence was at 35%, almost four times the 9% reported emerged this time last year and above the 27% five year average. Louisiana led the charge at 70% of its soybeans emerged, followed by Mississippi and Nebraska at 58% and 56% respectively.
