“For us, it’s always been about the soil and what we can do to make our soils better…” — Nancy Kavazanjian
Strip-till certainly isn’t a secret or new concept. For more than 20 years, Charlie Hammer and his wife Nancy Kavazanjian, have been strip-tilling corn on their nearly 1,900 acres near Beaver Dam, Wis.
While the practice is enhancing the microbial life in their soils and helping get the most out of his somewhat rocky fields, Charlie admits that he doesn’t have all the answers, but is constantly searching for them through on-farm learning and external learning opportunities.
In this episode, Editor Frank Lessiter, chats with the husband and wife team of Charlie Hammer and Nancy Kavazanjian of Beaver Dam, Wis. Charlie and Nancy adopted the motto ‘Our Soil, Our Strength’ in 1980, started no-tilling soybeans in 1985 and have been using no-till and strip-till techniques and latest technologies ever since in order to achieve their profitability and conservation goals in their 1,900 acre operation.
