According to the most recent USDA crop progress report, one quarter of corn was reported mature in the week ended Sept. 6, 2020. This exceeds the 10% reported mature in the same week last year and the 5 year average of 19%. North Carolina reported the most progress with 83% of its corn mature. The report also showed 79% of corn dented in the same week, ahead of 51% this time last year and the 5 year average of 71%. Texas and North Carolina were tied for the most corn dented at 93% each.
Some 15% of corn was reported in "excellent" condition, up from 14% in the previous week. Corn in "good" condition came in at 46%, down from 48% last week.
Some 20% of soybeans were reported dropping leaves; this was above the 7% in the previous week and the 5 year average of 16%. Louisiana led the charge at 67% of its soybeans dropping leaves. Soybean crop condition remained mostly unchanged from the previous week, with soybean crops in "good" condition dropping to 52% from 53% in the previous week. Crops in "excellent" condition remained unchanged at 13%.
