The latest USDA Crop Progress report, which reports data for the week ended Oct. 18, 2020, shows 60% of corn has been harvested, above the 28% harvested this time last year and the 5 year average of 43%. North Carolina led the charge with 93% of its corn harvested. Nearly all corn (97%) has been reported mature, above the 82% reported mature in the same week last year and below the 5 year average of 94%.
Corn crop condition was unchanged from last week, with 46% in "good" condition and 15% in "excellent" condition. It surpasses the same conditions reported this time last year: 45% in "good" condition and 11% in "excellent" condition.
Nearly all soybeans (97%) were reported dropping leaves in the week ended Oct. 18, above the 91% reported dropping leaves this time last year and the 95% 5 year average. Some 75% of soybeans were reported harvested, almost double the 40% harvested in the same week last year and above the 5 year average of 58%. Minnesota had the most harvested soybeans crops at 96%.
