When Seguin, Texas, farmer John Friesenhahn started his conservation tillage journey in 1998, there was widespread skepticism that no-till and strip-till systems could be effective practices in his area.
As John likes to tell people, “It’s been 20-plus years now and I’m still in business. I don’t think I need to justify if it works at this point. It works.”
Controlling variables is the primary benefit he sees on his 1,500-acre corn, cotton and wheat operation, from leveraging controlled traffic and precision technology, to preserving precious soil moisture that can survive hot Texas summers.
In today’s Strip-Till Farmer podcast, supported by the Agrisolutions, we share excerpts from my conversation with John during a visit to his farm, where he shares some of the transformative benefits adopting strip-till and no-till on his operation.
