Best of the Web This Week is brought to you by Crystal Green® by Ostara.
Crystal Green (5-28-0 with 10% Mg) is the only granular phosphate fertilizer that releases nutrients in response to crop demand. With its unique organic acid solubility, delivering phosphorus plus magnesium and nitrogen, Crystal Green enables growers to do more with less, achieving higher yields with fewer inputs and reduced environmental impact.
Strip-Till Offers Best of Both World Ahead of Canola Crops
RealAgriculture is talking strip-till on the latest episode of Canola School. Carlo Van Herk, research technician with Farming Smarter, explains how strip-till creates a happy medium between soil water conservation and seedbed preparation ahead of canola crops.
Beck’s Hybrids Unveils Strip-Till Trial Results
Agronomist Clayton Stufflebeam checks in from Havana, Illinois, for an update on a Beck’s dry strip-till trial. The trial compares different fertilizer rates for strip-tilled corn — 300 pounds of DAP/Potash vs. 225 pounds of DAP/Potash vs. 150 pounds of DAP/Potash. See why the results get Stufflebeam’s “blood pumping.”
Illinois Strip-Tiller Sees Conservation as a Moral Obligation
Illinois Farmer Today profiles Springfield, Ill., farmer Dick Lyons, who’s soil health practices include strip-till, no-till and cover crops. Lyons is pushing for the passage of legislation that supports Soil and Water Conservation Districts in every county in Illinois and includes funding to encourage the adoption of strip-till and cover crops. “We’re at a crossroads,” Lyons says. “There are all kinds of federal dollars in the Inflation Reduction Act earmarked for conservation. We’ve got to step up and take advantage of them. If we don’t do it in Illinois, somewhere else will.”
Drought Mitigation Strategies for Operational Resilience
Throughout the Midwest, drought conditions are putting strain on yield potential early this year. In this article, read about some strategies that can help ensure that your crops won’t suffer from the drought and hear about other strategies discussed at Mitchell Hora’s recent Topsoil Summit event in Iowa.
Dry conditions in some parts of the Midwest are putting a strain on yield potential early this season. But some stands are thriving. Practices such as continuous covers and no-till are making the difference, says Jimmy Emmons, the author, far left. Photo by: Trust In Food
Strip-Tilling Corn into Wheat Straw in Ohio
Check out these photos from London, Ohio, strip-tiller Nate Douridas (@FSRFarmer). Douridas planted strip-tilled corn on May 24 into wheat straw, and so far it’s “looking great,” despite abnormally dry conditions in the state.
