Best of the Web This Week is brought to you by Crystal Green® by Ostara.
Crystal Green (5-28-0 with 10% Mg) is the only granular phosphate fertilizer that releases nutrients in response to crop demand. With its unique organic acid solubility, delivering phosphorus plus magnesium and nitrogen, Crystal Green enables growers to do more with less, achieving higher yields with fewer inputs and reduced environmental impact.
Integrating Cattle & Crop Rotations with Strip-Till
Rock Creek, Minn., strip-tiller Jon Stevens checks in from his farm with a preview of his upcoming presentation at the National Strip-Tillage Conference. Stevens will lead 1 of 11 classroom sessions during the 3-day event in Bloomington, Ill., this week. There’s still time to sign up!

Drought Lessons Learned From Down Under
Australian farmer David McGavin was born in the drought, molded by it (that’s a Bane reference from the Dark Knight Rises for you Batman fans). McGavin, who co-founded Precision Seeding Solutions dealership in 2011 with his wife, Lauren, grew up on a 1,000-acre farm in New South Wales, a state in southeast Australia. Although drought is a regular occurrence in southern Australia, McGavin explains how forward-thinking famers have been making conservation practices work down under since the 1960s.
BALING OUT. David McGavin’s yield maps show lower wheat yields in 2015 (L) on sorghum fields that were baled in 2014 (R). Greg Butler, longtime research and development manager for the South Australian No-Till Farmers Association, cautions against baling in extreme drought, as residue loss from the soil surface can lead to multiple problems the following year.
Tumbling Glyphosate Prices Could Affect Strip-Tillers
In this article, read about how the agriculture industry seems to be swimming in supplies of glyphosate, forcing suppliers and ag retailers to cut prices in an effort to get rid of unused supply.
Indiana Farmers Set New High in Cover Crop Usage
According to the Strip-Till Benchmark Study, 61% of total survey respondents seeded cover crops in their strip-tilled fields in 2022. The conservation practice continues to pick up steam in states like Indiana, where farmers planted a record 1.6 million acres of cover crops this year, according to the 2023 conservation survey. Check out this report for an in-depth breakdown of the record-setting performance.
