As the precision ag manager for Frenchman Valley, Co-Op, Jeff Wessels has seen it all while working with hundreds of growers in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. A specialty is his study of agronomic solutions for greater herbicide control and biological products to improve soil health. Most recently, he’s tested the effect of fall herbicide application on Palmer amaranth. Wessels explains what works and what doesn’t when it comes to weed suppression techniques for strip-till, and why “quick and easy” isn’t the best method in a strip-till system. Wessels also identifies the most effective products for controlling the most troublesome weeds and the potential landmines when using them.
