Texas Strip-Tillers: “We Need Rain Now”
The Baumgardners strip-till 70% of their acres near Wellington, Texas. Their peanuts and cotton got off to a promising start, but they’re now sweating it out after 4 weeks of triple-digit temperatures and no rainfall. “We need a rain, like now,” Joe Baumgardner says in this FarmProgress feature. Georgia Strip-Tiller Named VP of Association of Conservation Districts
The Georgia Association of Conservation Districts elected Brian Ponder as vice president at their annual meeting. Mentor Network Helps Farmers Get Started with Strip-Till & Cover Crops
Minnesota Soil Health Coalition executive director Mark Gutierrez spoke about the importance of mentorship when getting started with conservation practices at a Soil Health Field Day near Deer Creek, Minn. The coalition has a mentor network, made up of trailblazers like Jerry Ackermann who was an early adopter of strip-till. “I’m still learning but I can usually tell them what not to do,” Ackermann says in this AgWeek article. “Start with the basics. Do a test strip. You’ll see changes in the first year.”
