Wet Fields, Machinery Failures Test Strip-Tiller’s Patience
In this FarmProgress feature, strip-tiller Kyle Stackhouse documents some of the challenges he’s encountering this planting season. “I’ll concede some issues may have been due to pockets of less-than-ideal field conditions in areas of the field, but certainly not all of them,” Stackhouse says. “In any year, much less a year like this one is turning into, the equipment must work when we have the opportunity. I did a survey of three friends this week, by far we are experiencing more down time in one day than they do in a week. Changes are coming for 2025!”
Root, Root, Root for the…Dairy Daddies?
Here’s a fun one. The Wall Street Journal recently reported on the Danville Dairy Daddies, a newly formed collegiate summer league baseball franchise in Danville, Va. The squad, and its mascot, McCreamy, pay homage to Virginia’s dairy trade and agribusiness community. Its debut is later this month, and one of the upcoming promotions includes “Teat Tuggin’ Thursday.”
Beck’s Reveals New Studies for Strip-Tillers in 2024

This includes corn studies on planter omission, starter fertilizer planting dates and fungicide carrier rates as well as soybean studies on gauge wheels, insecticide application and much more.

Strip-Till Benefits on Display in Ireland
And here’s our strip-till post of the week on X, formerly known as Twitter. Tony Bell plants corn into strips in Nort County Dublin, Ireland!
What’s the point in tilling all the field when you only need to till 1/3. Corn in the ground using 12l diesel /acre, 33% less fertiliser and a heck of a lot quicker#vaderstad #striptill #conceptagri pic.twitter.com/DjIxdZusFD
