Virginia Farmers Compare Strip-Till to Conventional Tillage

Strip-till is getting some run in the great state of Virginia. Southeast FarmPress highlights some of the top takeaways from a study comparing strip-till to conventional tillage in peanuts. “What we saw in the conventional tillage, with and without the oats, is cover crops didn’t make a difference in terms of weed control,” says Hunter Frame of the Tidewater Research and Extension Center in Suffolk, Va. “But when we had the oats in a strip-till system, we had significantly higher weed control during the early season when that cover crop was planted.”
