A bill to fund the federal government for the remaining six months of fiscal year 2013 is now awaiting the president’s signature. The House of Representatives passed the government funding bill recently by a vote of 318-109. Senate passage occurred with a 73-26 vote.

Fierceâ„¢ Herbicide (active ingredients: flumioxazin + pyroxasulfone), the newest residual from Valent U.S.A. Corporation, has received US EPA registration in soybeans. Fierce, which received registration for corn earlier this year, is now available to soybean growers for the longest-lasting, broadest spectrum control of broadleaves and grasses, including species that are resistant to glyphosate and other chemistries.

However, a solution may lie in a strand of corn that is able to grow successfully in acidic soil, thanks to a genetic variation recently identified with help from the University of Florida Genetics Institute.
