Corteva Agriscience partnered with Dan Quinn, assistant professor of agronomy at Purdue University, to perform several trials of Instinct NXTGEN nitrogen (N) stabilizer. Trial objectives were to gather data on corn yield, plant N uptake and soil N availability on plots that received N treated with Instinct versus plots that were left untreated by Instinct.
Given the current price of nitrogen (N) and widely varying field conditions, an understanding of loss mechanisms and other estimates of loss or soil tests may help decide on 2022 management in fields where N has already been applied.
Many producers could benefit by using starter fertilizer when planting corn. Starter fertilizer is simply the placement of some fertilizer, usually nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), near the seed - which "jump starts" growth in the spring.
