In this Strip-Till Farmer podcast, bought to you by Topcon Agriculture, we're joined by Rob Myers, regional director of extension programs for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) to dig into data from the recently released Census of Agriculture’s 2017 report to dissect some of the national momentum for cover crop adoption.

The regional director of extension programs for the USDA’s Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program to share results of the economical benefits of cover crop seeding at the 2019 National Cover Crop Summit.

Following the use of cover crops, farmers reported increased yields of corn, soybeans and wheat, and improved control of herbicide-resistant weeds, according to a nationwide survey. In addition, the survey of 2,012 farmers showed acreage planted in cover crops has nearly doubled over the past five years.

Ongoing studies by the USDA’s Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program, including its annual national cover crop survey, are breaking down the benefits and best practices for cover crop usage in conservation tillage systems. Dr. Rob Myers is Regional Director of Extension Programs North Central SARE program, and oversees several projects related to cover crops and soil health both regionally and nationally.
