Charlie Hammer is on the eternal hunt for the perfect strip-till rig. The veteran strip-tiller from Beaver Dam, Wis., has cycled through several combinations of implements in recent years in the quest to find an ideal fit for the 2,100 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat he and his wife Nancy Kavazanjian grow.
Hammer will share his successes, challenges and even the failures he’s encountered experimenting with different toolbars, row-unit setups to clear residue, spring refresher units to warm up the berms and dry fertilizer placement systems. He will also offer solid advice based on practical experience regarding factors to consider when choosing a strip-till rig to suit individual fields and improve yields, while protecting your most valuable resource: the soil.
